Christmas Presents for Photographers

I know, I know! It's only November, but Christmas is going to be weird this year. We need a plan because we might not be able to mindlessly wander round the shops at the last minute throwing totally inappropriate items into our basket. And, how many times have been the recipient of the subsequent obviously re-gifted items the following year?

Here are a few ideas for gifts a photographer might appreciate. Yes, they're online, and I know we all want to shop local, but you can take the ideas and see if your local stockist can help, if they are offering their own online service during lockdown.

1) A camera bag - a decent one. Keep you ears open for subtle hints like 'I need a bigger/smaller bag for expeditions/dog walks'

Check out Lowepro for backpacks in various sizes for any kit, or have a look at Crumpler for something a bit different. I've got my eye on this beauty for street photography and family days out, when you don't want your kit to scream 'Carrying expensive camera gear!' to all and sundry.

2) A Book

Argh! Minefield! You will need to know your photographer for this one. Please steer clear of really technical books, eg the Photoshop ones or specific camera models, unless you know exactly what is required, as these will be out of date almost as soon as they hit the shelves.

Coffee table books are always nice, and there are lots to choose from. Stick to the genre that you photographer is interested in and have a search on a book retailers website. you're sure to find your friend something inspirational!

3) Gloves

Cold fingers are not conducive to good photography. Cold fingers make you want to pack up and go home but fumbling in  ski gloves makes you hit all the wrong buttons. Your photographer would really appreciate some photography gloves

4) Accessories

That's vague! It might not seem very exciting but SD cards , portable hard drives, lens cleaning kits etc will always get used. Small gifts are easy to post too, if you can't see your photographer this Christmas. Think it looks a bit small when it's wrapped up? Add a massive bar of chocolate. Can't go wrong! 😀

5) Stocking Fillers

Put 'photography gifts' in your Amazon search and you'll come up with many 'interesting' options.

Got an Instagrammer? They might like a crystal ball. Yeah it's a fad and it'll be over by this time next year, but you'll get change from a tenner.
There are novelty mugs, t-shirts, keyrings, cufflinks and also this useful book for your astrophotographer

I hope you've found this useful. If you have any ideas, drop them in the comments!

The items pictured in this post are for illustrative purposes only and are in no way a big hint to my husband
